Who are we?

Picture

Charlton Kings Tennis Place is a friendly tennis facility started by Simon and Ruth Thomas 15 years ago.  We are keen tennis players ourselves and originally met whilst working at an indoor tennis centre together over 30 years ago!  We share a real enthusiasm for the game because it's a good way of keeping fit, involving the whole family and meeting new people.

Simon is the Head Coach at the club and has previously worked in the tennis industry as a coach, facility manager and development officer. He also has a full time job working for Hereford and Worcestershire County Sports Partnership.

Ruth takes care of the day to day management and administration of the club and has previously worked as a community development consultant and personal tutor.  She also works as an Independent Careers and Higher Education Adviser, working in schools, colleges and for individual clients.

We are so pleased that we started the club 15 years ago as it has proved to be very rewarding and enjoyable.  Every year we welcome back our regular members, some of whom have been with us since the start but we always welcome new people joining us.  What we feel is most important is to offer a tennis experience that is good value for money, relaxed and friendly and something for all ages and abilities.

In December 2013 we were excited to receive the Gloucestershire LTA's annual Club of the Year Award and in December 2016 Simon was awarded Gloucestershire LTA Coach of the Year.
In June 2018 we nominated Balcarras School who won the National LTA Award for Education.
In December 2019 we were awarded Gloucestershire LTA Community Venue of the Year.
